The lodge sits in the sweet spot: dinner, bikes, puzzles, cinema, the village, and the Recreation Path are all within an easy walk. The only ride you truly need is the station taxi.
THE WHOLE WEEKEND
Three days.
One clean rhythm.
Tap a day. On Saturday, choose the plan that matches the pavement—not the version of autumn you hoped for.
Land, eat, exhale.
The train is the event. Do not make dinner a race.
Reconfirm the waiting taxi. Ask Doc Ponds or The Bench if 8:30 seating is realistic.
Let the weather pick.
Bike if dry. Walk if damp. Go inside if cold rain. Hike only if conditions genuinely earn it.
Dry and above freezing? Bike. Damp but comfortable? Walk the same route.
Waterproof layer on. Do not force a foliage morning in cold rain.
Bring shell, warm layer, water, traction-minded shoes, and a headlamp.
Come back to the walkable core for the afternoon.
Protect the train.
Breakfast is inside the station. The itinerary is deliberately early and boring—in the best way.
Phones, chargers, wallet, tickets, small bag, rolling bag, backpack.
The station is unstaffed and Amtrak recommends being ready 30 minutes early.

Peak foliage is usually gone by this weekend. Valley color may hang on, but cold wind, wet leaves, and frozen high ground are more useful assumptions.
Skip the gondola and ski museum in the core plan. Both are normally between seasons on your dates. Treat any late operating announcement as a bonus, not an itinerary anchor.
